Erlörein longs to join the raiders as a shield maiden and earn the respect of her clan, but none will take her seriously. When a deadly plague threatens the clan she is given her opportunity: help find a cure in exchange for a coveted raider position.

Lord Ríni tires of fighting a losing battle to keep his people safe. Barbarian clans raiding his land, a beast ravaging the castle and now murmurs of the plague haunt him.

Erlörein partners with Ríni against their common foes. As her newfound friends offer her a purpose withheld by her own clan, Erlörein’s allegiance begins to sway, despite her suspicions they are keeping some grave secret.

Under the threat of war, Erlörein is torn between loyalty to her clan and her feelings for Ríni. She is the bridge that can unite two peoples against a common adversary. But if she does, how could mere mortals combat such evil?
